Tuscan decor in full force

When people decide that they want to decorate their house according to a Tuscan design it often comes out looking brand new, which is fine but not authentic because if you come to Tuscany you will find the real Tuscan feel is in mother nature and not in polishing your tiles in your kitchen.

The plaster on the walls might be cracking, but Italians will always have flower boxes outside their windows, which will draw your eye away from anything that is unimportant. Old world Tuscan decor is simple and lives on.

A proper Tuscan house should be natural so you could have marble or granite flooring. Many people have gravel in a part of their gardens, maybe in the driveway or in the front garden. Shutters are a common feature with natural wood brightly painted , usually blue or green. Terracotta slabs more than often found on the roofs of houses.

Typically, Tuscan decor is uncluttered, decorated with the natural simplicities in life. One or two pine cones are scattered  on the window sills. These you can scout around for in your local forest. When you think of decorating your house think of bright colors in terms of jars and vases and other ornaments can be sculptures in the form of clay, terracotta or marble. These don’t necessarily have to be expensive.

Tuscan bathroom would be kept to whites and beige colors, reflecting a peaceful setting. Adding the famous stucco texture with  a pale color is also something you could do in a bathroom. Many people also have a deep blue tile in the center of the wall a design on it. A wrought iron shelf can be constructed for things like shampoo and soap which you can leave next to the sink.

Tuscan decorating accessories

Tuscan decor accessories will have to be kept simple. You can buy old furniture at second-hand stores and strip them so this does not have to be an expensive task. Look for a couple of terracotta or clay window boxes and clay pots for brightly colored flowers. Italians love these outside their windows. If you go to Tuscany and you find yourself in one of the markets on a Saturday morning you will come across  different colored flowers, which the locals will take home and display in their  flower boxes. Textures and colors are mixed to give the home a Mediterranean feel, using ceramics, wrought iron ornaments, rustic urns, wooden furniture Tuscan lighting and marble flooring. The lived in and inviting feel is definitely Tuscan all the way.

You can choose vinyl flooring as a cheaper version and add a few colorful rugs to add some more color. Normally cupboards are open without any doors in front of them. This is quite practical allowing easy access to your dinner dishes when you are in a hurry.

Tuscan kitchen decor

When it comes to a Tuscan decor kitchen you might want to keep some of the furniture natural looking such as wrought iron furniture, tile counter tops or sinks that are made of stone or porcelain, but most people will not go that far. To decorate your kitchen in a Tuscan style can be done on any sort of budget and this would depend if you are prepared to scout around in second hand shops for vintage accessories, which can be fun or you may just want to order everything from a specialist. In my opinion if you do everything yourself you will reallly achieve the style and homely feel you are looking for and not just another theme. When creating your Tuscan theme, think of simplicity and comfort because this is what it should be based around.
Unlike a contemporary, designer kitchen, this type of kitchen is for those who want to go beyond the look. It is more about warmth and family life, which Italians are big on.

There are many ways to create a sense of color with your Tuscan decor. For example the use of copper pots, colorful jars, mirrors and chandeliers will do wonders for your home. Typical Tuscan decor paint colors will include green, blue, yellow, terracotta, brick and ochre.

Tuscan wall decor

As mentioned before Italians in Tuscany are no stranger of natural materials and using them on the walls is not uncommon. This comes in the form of rustic metal, wood or stone. A wrought iron wall plaque could make a great focal point. Wine racks are something that also look good, made out of metal or wrought iron. A tapestry will really brighten up a room of mostly brown tiles and lightly painted wall. Again, the material used in tapestry would all be natural. You could simply hang it on a wooden or wrought iron rod.
